Sports and outdoor activities from a 17-year-old in Newport.
I’m 17, I enjoy my gym and activities and I prefer to stay very active throughout the day. I am now an experienced level 1 and 2 sports leader which is a qualification that is used nationally.
I thankfully got my sports leaders qualification through Urban Circle and gaining this qualification means I can help people with sport tutoring. This is what I enjoy the most and it’s what I want to do in the future. It’s about leading sessions and instructing people on how to use the gym and stay active.
I have been part of Urban Circle since I was 14. Since then I have learnt how to organise big festivals around Newport such as the summer festival. I have also learnt how to work as a group to make these events happen. The opportunities to get together and try things is rewarding and it has helped me develop my skills.
I have done many different types of fundraising activities, to help make the Urban Circle Summer Festival free for other young people. This includes fundraising for our favourite artists to come down to Newport and perform at the festival.
Urban Circle is an organisation that wants young people from all different back grounds to come together, to achieve whatever they want to achieve and be the best they can be.
I think we need more of that in Newport and South Wales. A chance to be who and what you want to be. This is always going to produce happier people.
