Dance Leaders qualifications give you the skills, knowledge and qualifications to kick-start your career in dance. Across three accredited courses, you will build the abilities and confidence to lead your own dance classes and progress your career as a dance professional.

Course Outline

WHAT WILL YOU DO ON THE COURSE?

Dance Leaders Levels 1, 2 and 3 are hands-on, high energy courses where you will dance, learn and grow as a leader. You will take part in a varied mix of workshops, training, teamwork and creative activities, hosted by G Expressions at the University of South Wales. The course is led by our qualified Dance professionals who bring a wealth of experience across a range of contemporary dance styles, as well as experience leading their own classes and programmes.

LEVEL 1

  • Unit 1 - Establishing leadership skills
  • Unit 2 - Plan, assist in leading and review dance activities
  • Unit 3 - Lead dance activities which promote a healthy lifestyle

LEVEL 2

  • Unit 1 - Building leadership skills
  • Unit 2 - Plan, lead and evaluate dance activity sessions Unit 3 - Assist in planning and leading a dance event Unit 4 - Dance choreography
  • Unit 5 - Lead dance activities

LEVEL 3

  • Unit 1 – Developing skills for dance leadership
  • Unit 2 – Lead safe dance activities/sessions

  • Assisting Classes and shadow learning

Dance Leaders Level 2 Sports Leaders UK Accredited Course Information

GX Bolt Ons

  • Volunteering hours – assisting dance activities and classes. Undertaking adhoc dance duties and responsibilities
  • Shadow learning
  • Upskilling in social media platforms/ promotions e.g. Tik Tok take overs / breakdown dance videos
  • Access to DLF (dance leaders foundation classes – space to be creative with your own dance abilities and explore with support of GX members (fees apply) 

Dance Leaders Level 3 Sports Leaders UK Accredited Course Information

  • Volunteering hours – assisting dance acitivties and classes. Undertaking adhox dance duties and responsibilities

  • Access to DLF (dance leaders foundation classes – space to be creative with your own dance abilities and explore with support of GX members. (fees apply) 

When and where does the course take place?

Sessions take place at the University of South Wales in Newport, in a high quality studio with sprung wooden floors and professional equipment. Courses usually take place during half-term and summer holidays. 

Timings for each course will be shared at the booking stage. You can expect to undertake: 

  • Level 1: 45 hours of study and practice across one week (usually February)
  • Level 2: 59 hours across two weeks (usually April)
  • Level 3: 140 hours over four months (usually June-September) 

What will be expected of me?

As a participant, you will be expected to complete all work tasks and have full attendance during the course/s. Thus, be committed to your development as a dancer and your personal growth as a leader . You will need previous experience of taking part in dance courses or classes and to be familiar with the basics of dance and movement (depending on course entry). 

Entry Requirements

Level 1

  • Minimum age on course start: 12+ years old
  • Pre-requisites: None

Level 2

  • Minimum age on course start: 13+ years old
    Pre-requisites: DLL1 Certification

Level 3

  • Minimum age on course start: 15 years old
    Pre-requisites: DLL2 Certification

Fees and Funding

Fees start from £429 per person. If you are a school, college or organisation working with young people, please get in touch to discuss your needs and get a full quote.

Free and subsidised places are made available for individual young people aged 10-25 whenever possible. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this. Indicative fees (subject to change)

Careers

What happens after the course?

You will be able to progress from Level 1 up to Level 3, at which point you will be qualified to lead your own dance classes. Along the way, you will become part of the GX network where you will have access to opportunities to develop your skills further and meet other young dancers and dance professionals. Most Dance Leaders graduates go on to a career in dance, but many also choose to pursue dance for fun, enjoyment and wellbeing, as part of an active and healthy lifestyle.
