Cool Runnings - Screening, discussion & fund raising

Venue: The Circle | 6 Market St, Newport, NP20 1FU

Friday 12th December @ 6.15pm doors open.

Cool Runnings is a joyful and inspiring celebration of courage, determination, and the power of sports to transform lives. Based on the true story of Jamaica’s first bobsled team, the film follows a group of unlikely athletes who defied expectations and brought their country to the Winter Olympics. Beyond the laughs and thrills, Cool Runnings highlights themes of teamwork, perseverance, and national pride, showing how sports can empower individuals and uplift communities. The story is a testament to the spirit of the Caribbean, where passion, creativity, and resilience turn challenges into opportunity.

As we watch Cool Runnings, we are invited to reflect on the broader impact of sports in Caribbean communities. From inspiring youth to fostering unity and cultural identity, sports serve as a vehicle for social change and personal growth. Tonight’s screening will be followed by a discussion on the role of sports in shaping Caribbean communities, celebrating achievements, and creating opportunities for the next generation.

The ticket price is only £1 , and any additional payment made at checkout will go toward providing much-needed aid and relief in Jamaica. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Caribbean Heritage, Urban Circle, and the Rastafari community of Montego Bay for their support and spirit of unity. As well as DARPLE and Taith Cymru.

Supported by Film Hub Wales as part of the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN), made possible by the National Lottery.
