Dangal tells the story of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who challenges deep-rooted gender expectations by training his daughters, Geeta and Babita, to compete in a sport traditionally reserved for men. As their talent emerges, the film becomes not only a story of sporting ambition, but a quietly powerful reflection on girls breaking barriers and redefining what strength and success look like.

Following the sisters from childhood to international competition, the film captures their growth, family tensions, and the sacrifices behind excellence. With gripping matches and emotional depth, Dangal celebrates resilience, determination, and the importance of supporting women to pursue their ambitions on their own terms. Hindi language with a mid-film break. Rated PG, 161 mins. An optional post-film chat will follow.

Hosted at the Share Centre on Stow Hill. Free screening with tea, coffee, biscuits, and fruit. Spaces are limited, so please book in advance.

A small children’s activity area is available (email share@ucnewport.co.uk to book), led by registered youth workers. A neurodiverse-friendly quiet space will also be available, led by neurodiversity expert Alex Kegie. This is strictly a women's-only event run by Urban Circle Newport female staff in line with the UK Equality Act.
