Seventeen year old Rocks lives in East London, balancing school, friendships, and the everyday chaos of teenage life. When her mother abruptly disappears and leaves Rocks to care for her younger brother, she is forced to navigate a system that offers little understanding or safety.
What follows is a deeply humane portrait of survival powered by the loyalty of Rocks’ friendship group. These young women provide humour, protection, and emotional refuge when formal support structures fail. Shot with remarkable naturalism and featuring largely non professional actors, the film feels alive with energy, warmth, and honesty.
At 93 minutes, Rocks avoids sensationalism and focuses instead on joy, care, and collective strength. It is a rare film that centres young Black women not as problems to be solved, but as complex and joyful people.
This screening is a safe space for woman only and includes an optional post film chat at Circle Screening, offering space to reflect on youth, care, and community support systems.
