Set in the hill towns of India in the 1970s, Barfi! follows the intertwined lives of three characters whose relationships challenge conventional ideas of romance and success. Barfi, a cheerful young man who is deaf and mute, forms deep connections with Shruti, a woman torn between societal expectations and personal happiness, and Jhilmil, an autistic woman whose vulnerability is matched by profound emotional depth.
Through expressive physical performance and minimal dialogue, the film explores how love exists beyond social rules, financial pressure, and prescribed roles. Shruti and Jhilmil’s journeys sit at the emotional heart of the story, examining choice, care, sacrifice, and self determination in ways that feel especially resonant in a women only screening space.
Rated PG and running at 151 minutes, Barfi! blends humour, nostalgia, and heartfelt drama to create a cinematic experience that is uplifting without being simplistic. It invites audiences to reflect on how love, autonomy, and compassion can be acts of quiet resistance.
After the screening, audiences are invited to join an optional post film chat at Circle Screening to share reflections in a supportive and welcoming environment.
