Urban Circle Community Cinema, in partnership with Newport Palestine Solidarity Campaign, presents a special screening of Daniele Rugo’s Life Support, followed by an in-person conversation and audience Q&A with Professor Nick Maynard.

Life Support (2026) brings together the first-hand testimony and footage of international doctors who have worked inside Gaza since October 2023.

With international journalists largely unable to report from inside Gaza, the film uses the experiences of medical workers to document conditions in hospitals under bombardment, severe shortages of supplies and food, and the continuing pressure of treating large numbers of civilian casualties.

Directed by Daniele Rugo, the film features Professor Nick Maynard alongside Dr Tanya Haj Hassan, Dr Victoria Rose and a number of other doctors who have worked in Gaza.

Special guest: Professor Nick Maynard

We are very pleased to welcome Professor Nick Maynard to Newport for this screening.

Nick is a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust and Associate Professor at the University of Oxford. He has travelled repeatedly to Gaza as part of emergency medical teams and appears prominently in Life Support.

Following the film, Nick will join us for an in-person conversation about what he witnessed, the realities facing healthcare workers and civilians, and the experiences documented in the film.

There will also be an opportunity for members of the audience to ask questions.

About the evening

We will bring documentary cinema and first-hand testimony together for a public conversation about healthcare, humanitarian work and the human consequences of war.

Doors open at 5pm, bar and snacks available.

The post-screening conversation and Q&A will finish at approximately 8.20pm.
